Most people who start up a business know little or nothing about running a business. They are fuelled by a passion for what they do and have the technical know how or sales skills to get a business started.
As with most new things many business owners learn by making mistakes, which can be a painful process, but also a disastrous one if they do not learn quickly enough.
There are 4 key areas to running a business:
• Sales and marketing
• Operations
• Finance
• Strategy
Usually a business owner has skills in at least one of these areas when they set up but the rest need to be learned for the business owner to survive and thrive in the long term.
It can be easy to spend time on the day to day issues that need to be addressed but working on not in your business is just as important for the long term of the business and its owner.
We are going to take you through a series of blogs to cover each of these areas and to help to train you with the necessary skills. We have used these successfully with many businesses through our Ambition Club, albeit in more detail than we can get in a blog!
