Day Two of Martin’s Challenge

After a decent breakfast the day began with a big uphill which was a sign of things to come!
Our first target was Tavistock which was a very undulating journey including crossing our first border to Devon at Gunnislake bridge. We lost each other briefly for the first time as we entered Tavistock but met in the town square before an excellent lunch. A pretty town.

Then the climb to Dartmoor began. On and on it went, but fantastic scenery and wildlife.

As we dropped into Mortenhampstead we had our first “mechanical” as my front gears developed a missing screw situation. 2 very long climbs as part of the journey to Exeter needed a new climbing technique to be developed but managed OK. However we got to Exeter too late for the bike shops to be open so with most of the climbing behind us we cracked onto our Travelodge near Tiverton.

Near the end of the journey we met 3 other cyclists doing the same journey but they were looking for a campsite as they were carrying their own tent – impressive!!

A great but tough day today which I believe is the biggest climbing day of the whole trip. Get the bike fixed tomorrow
