So today we headed to Andy’s mum’s house but as I used to have a client in Innerliethen I knew we were in for a great journey to start with. Turning right at Moffat is the less used LEJOG route as most people go through Glasgow, but the individual angle to our map continued today. That said we have had a head wind to deal with again for a lot of today but much the better option to have that than rain!
We were hoping that Andy’s brother and family would join us for lunch and they did it in style by driving past us as we dropped down into Innerliethen with flags waving and big cheering. Had a good lunch, even though they didn’t have my first choice for either main course or dessert. (I said I had come from Land’s End so couldn’t she nip down the street for me!!!) It was great catching up with Martin, Caterina, Douglas and Amanda and they shared in the first puncture story of our trip!!
Thankfully it was their car and not our bikes but quite an ordeal including assistance from the boys in blue.
From there they continued their journey and we took a good cycle path to Peebles for gold post box photo number 4 (Scott Brash). After a quick mint choc chip ice cream, we headed north to Penicuik near Edinburgh on a very poor road surface that was very busy with traffic. It was worth it in the end as it took us to our finishing trail across the Pentland hills. Very much a trail (including cycling through a bit of a stream) with high risk of the spare inner tubes being required but thankfully we got away with it.
That took us into Balerno where we were treated to a great welcome by people on Andy’s mum’s street, including a donation for the charity from Astrid.
Roast beef for tea….. Fantastic!!!
United v Chelsea missed tonight but doesn’t sound like I missed much! Hoping for a good kip as I was flagging a bit later in the day today.
